PRESIDENCY TO STRIP TOP NIGERIANS OF NATIONAL HONOURS

President Goodluck Jonathan has ordered the compilation of the names of holders of national honours awards who had been convicted or were facing trial for criminal offences.

The office of the SGF has been mandated to find out the names of those who were indicted and have national honours, the directive was preparatory to having the honours withdrawn from such awardees.
In view of this, Mrs. Cecilia Ibru (former Managing Director of Oceanic Bank Plc), Mr. Erastus Akingbola (ex-MD of Intercontinental Bank), Chief Bode George (chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party),Tafa Balogun (former Inspector-General of Police) and other indicted public office holders would lose their national honour.

My question is....what is the precise criteria in giving out the national honours, is it wealth, investment or contract basis? What about those that died for the country, sport heroes and great achievers...The right thing should be done at all times, that is why we have special advisers all around Mr President...
