BEHIND THE SCENES FROM KUMBAYA; THE MUCH TALKED ABOUT MUSICAL FILM

Have you heard about Kumbaya...come by home? A musical film that will hit the cinemas very soon but the Producer and the entire crew are currently filming around some locations in Lagos and interestingly, there will be a concert like scene that will be shot in a very big church...Now, casting was done majorly to the advantage of selective actors who are talented vocally but not necessarily a musical icon..Watch out for some beautiful vocals from the likes of Kate Henshaw, Essence and Ronke Ojo. It is also a unique studio production as songs were written and produced exclusively for this film.
Personally, I am looking out for Essence because of her vocal strength and she did give a superb performance alongside Kate Henshaw while recording their part in the studio for this musical film. Kumbaya also features the likes of Yemi Solade, Lanre Hassan (Iya Awero), Aaron Sunday, Deji Boroffice, Chimezie Imo and many more talented professionals who are coming together to set another kind of standard with a musical film. This project is directed by a professional with years of experience and the man behind the creative directing of Gulder Ultimate search, Bode Odeyemi.

ON AIR PERSONALITY, SINMILEOLUWA HASSAN - APPEARANCE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH HOW SKILLFUL YOU ARE...

The creative world of SinmileOluwa Hassan is a versatile one because when you are talented enough to try your hands on various careers...and good at it, nothing should stop such an individual from reaching the peak in life...Sinmi is an On Air Personality with Lagos Traffic Radio 96.1 FM and he has been consistent along with a team in providing the Lagos populace with information especially on traffic; listeners are advised on the best route to get to their destination and despite having some angry callers who seem not satisfied no matter how hard one tries, he is always happy when he gets calls from motorists thanking him for getting home in good time..He describes it as rewarding even though traffic in Lagos is dynamic but the goal is to move people forward.

This 32 year old native of Omu Ijebu, Odogbolu in Ogun State is a graduate of Theatre Arts from the prestigious University of Ibadan, Oyo State and he further served his nation for a year at the Delta State Council for Arts and Culture. Sinmi is not just a presenter but also an Actor. He did not set out to be a presenter on radio but one thing will always lead to another and It is always cool when we just be in the moment of any transition we might be going through...He explains that every effort is going into pushing through as an actor, tugging at various ropes and hopefully the breakthrough will come.
As a family member of Nollywood, Sinmi is concerned about some issues in the industry and if given the opportunity to make corrections; He says Nollywood should stop making casting decisions on looks alone; never judge an actor by how fair or dark, handsome or beautiful he or she is before considering them for a role. He adds that appearance has nothing to do with skill...He says this idea does not always make believable characters, even in Hollywood too...He has been doing a bit of writing, directing and producing..all of which has been requiring some level of improvement in order to meet standards.

Sinmi described his dad as a disciplinarian growing up...they were never allowed outside of the house and he misses his late sister who died of a heart disease at age 10. He adds that he misses the innocence of his childhood where he did not have a care in the world. This things certainly shaped his current personae as he aspires to be closer to God, be a great husband and father to his wife and children. He also wants to be an inspiration to many presenters and actors and generally improve upon himself as an artiste.

''RADIOKELV''; FROM THE CHEMISTRY LAB. TO BEING A ''VOICE'' ON RADIO.

Everyday we tune in to a favorite Radio station to listen to good music jamz, news and mostly because our favorite presenter is on a show; For most people, the voice is a very catchy factor for getting attached to a radio station but these guys go through a lot just to make you feel happy and hopeful too for a better life...A young personality who has continued to strive in bringing that good feeling on Radio is Kelvin Ibrahim, also known as ''RadioKelv''. Despite his busy schedule, he was able to share his greatest moments about childhood, his passion on Radio and life in general...
Kelvin describes himself as cool, funny, weird and spontaneous...and he says you cannot make assumptions about him until you get to know him and when you get to meet Kelvin, you might mistake him for a Fulani, Igbo, Efik or Ijaw man but this 6 feet 2 inches slim built On Air Personality is actually from the Igala tribe in Kogi State even though he was born at St.Nicholas Hospital in Lagos. He describes his birth as a source of blessing to his parents as they both landed great jobs after. Kelvin's journey into Radio broadcasting is of mixed feelings because he was initially concerned and worried about who he wanted to be in future and what he would like to spend the rest of his life doing...Did he give up about that..?.No...With a selfless and passionate mind needed in his kind of career, he has been striving to be a top notch broadcaster.
This cool presenter of the coolest station in Nigeria started his journey back in campus while studying Chemistry with Polymer Science at the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Niger State. He attempted an audition while on campus and got the opportunity to present shows, host interviews, edit the news and generally got the chance to be around like minded people. That experience changed everything for him as the business of broadcasting completely took over the mind of this chemistry student and so he could not wait to drop his certificate and extensively pursue a passion that has become a career today. He interned with Hot Fm, Abuja before graduating where he co-hosted shows and thereafter moved over to the Cool Station in Lagos where he started out as a voice over artiste and was later moved to the Cool Overnight Lounge.

Kelvin did not just put himself in this position to be where he is today, As a child, the traits of being an entertainer was extremely reflected while residing at CBN Estate, Satellite Town, Lagos; he was present at every birthday party, invited or not invited, he would win the dance competitions and take home prizes, he knew almost every family and had stories to say about them. Perhaps. that should have been a revelation that he was born for the media...He further shared some funny memories like locking up people in the elevators, deflating Car tyres, ringing door bells and running away..the excitement of growing up in Lagos was awesome for him.
Kelvin did not think twice when It was time to serve his fatherland for the 1 year NYSC Programme as he continued his journey with Cool Fm, Kano where he presents the Cool Overnight Lounge from 1am to 5am. He might be a graduate of Chemistry but he also has a Post Graduate Diploma in Customer Relationship Management and yes we can say listeners are like customers benefiting from the entertainment being provided by Cool Fm and RadioKelv is like a customer service agent who is always there for the sleepless because he loves the idea of being heard, entertaining people, being a friend to those who need one and sometimes a shoulder to lean on...

The job of an On Air Personality is quite tasking and Kelvin also has his challenges which includes thinking of ideas and planning his shows and that is why you will always see him with a pen and a note pad...and being an observant person, he also gets ideas from his environment. He further says the job demands being proactive, creative, very engaging and most importantly, one must be able to appeal to several kinds of people all at the same time.

Kelvin says his mentors are quite few because they inspire him in specific ways; He listened to Dan Foster while growing up and It must be a delight for anyone to meet and work with such a talent again. He also mentioned the Late Chaz B, who was a huge source of inspiration to him and also helping people out with all kinds of issues on the show and the third personality is Daddy Freeze as described by Kelvin, He likes his tenacity. Unwavering confidence behind the microphone, style and opinions.
How does Kelvin relax..?.he described it as a difficult question because he hardly maps out time for that but spending time on his phone does help, watching a movie, hanging out with people and driving which helps him clear his head. When I asked about what It takes to be a professional in his chosen career..He says ''On this job, you have to be charismatic, engaging, charming, eloquent, selfless and passionate. If you lack any of these and you have all the academic qualifications, you are as good as remaining in the classroom''. Aside sitting in front of the microphone, Kelvin is strongly involved in a mentorship programme for secondary school students, grooming them on presentation skills, confidence and lots more.

If given the chance of leadership, Kelvin says he will fight for the good course of Journalists in Nigeria because they risk their lives in sourcing for information and they go back home with little or nothing in their pockets..He adds that the industry is getting better but there is always room for improvement. However, he wants to be remembered for his contribution to the upliftment of broadcast journalism in Nigeria; From anchoring shows that enlighten people to creating awareness about certain societal issues and being a voice for the 'voiceless'.

ONLY SUPER STARS ROCK THE RED CARPET AND STILL GET AN AWARD!

ADESUA ETOMI
I am doing this because I felt bad when a friend brought my attention to the fact that Nollywood Actress, Adesua Etomi was the queen of the night..Do you know she actually beat super weights like Genevieve Nnaji and Nse Ikpe-Etim to cart away the Best Actress category at the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards held in Lagos recently and that automatically makes her Africa's Best Actress. Adesua is certainly one of the finest in Nollywood and super talented either on stage or on the screen and it all makes sense as she aspires to be like Meryl Streep.

Do you know Adesua can sing well...? Adesua also rocks her natural hair every time and she never disappoints on the red carpet...She is a first class graduate of Drama and Performance from the University of Wolverhampton in the United Kingdom...With this award, Adesua is definitely going to hit some marks as most producers would want her in their next feature and with that, the sky can only be the beginning of greater things to come for this Edo State light skinned beauty.

AFRICA GOES GREEN AT THE AMVCA 2016...AND WHAT WENT DOWN!

...And the winner is...that was a regular line used by most presenters of the various categories at the 2016 edition of the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards held at the Centre of Excellence, Lagos. It was glitz, glamour and graceful looks by most stylish celebrities across the continent of Africa but one unique thing about the day was an element of green which was very present on the red carpet; 53 Extra host, Ozzy Agu, Actresses Rita Dominic, Funke Akindele, Stephanie Linus, Beverly Naya, Adesuwa Etomi and Kate Hensahw all had some element of green embolished in their outfits...Despite that, some appeared awful in the green.
This was truly a great night and also a thumbs down...but the celebration of African drama and Movies is the reason why this awards is put together...This was the night for Veteran Actress, Bukky Ajayi who was honored alongside fellow Veteran, Sadiq Daba for the Industry Merit Award...I got emotional as Mama was assisted to the stage and she expressed her gratitude while in tears and witha good sense of humor...

Ariyike Oladipo is one Television Professional whose works are very detailed; from sound, screenplay and the stars used in her production and grabbing the Best Tv Drama Series for 'Daddy's Girls' is no surprise...hard work surely pays and that also applies to Oluseyi Amuwa for his effort on 'A Day with Death' which won Best Short Film. One African Woman whose works have always spoken professionalism is Shirley Frimpong-Manso...She also grabbed the Best Picture Editor for the movie, 'Rebecca'...Another creative man and Director like Shirley is Akin Omotosho, He won Best Director for 'Tell Me Sweet Something' and Best Documentary went to Remi Vaughn-Richards for 'Faaji Agba'.

I am particularly thrilled, happy and full of joy for Funke Akindele and Folarin Falana also known as Falz for filling our lives with unending humor every week on Television...All that did not go to waste as they both grabbed Best Actress and Actor in a Comedy Series, Jenifa. This edition has been described by some people as highly motivational because most of the winners are very deserving due to effort that went into their various production...The same applies to Chidozie 'Sambasa' Nzeribe who won Best Actor in a Supporting role in 'A Soldier's Story' and Tubosun Aiyedun who won Best Actress in a Supporting role in 'Before 30'.
There were some big moments for the night and this is so because these particular winners are very hardworking, spirited and quite detailed in their craft as Screen and Stage Actors...I am referring to two talented ladies, Adesuwa Etomi and Kemi 'Lala' Akindoju. My best speeches for the night came from these ladies...Adesuwa won Best Actress in a Drama/Movie for her outstanding role in 'Falling' while Kemi won the Trail Blaizer Award alongside an SUV from one of the sponsors. The much anticipated winner of the night was Daniel K. Daniel for the Best Actor in a Drama/Movie for the movie, A Soldier's Story.

Can the night pass by without Genevieve Nnaji grabbing one award...? I guess the brand she represents that happens to be a major sponsor of the awards might not be happy with it...and so, It was a lucky night as her movie, Road To Yesterday grabbed the Best West African Movie...If you ask me, I will say Its a good one because Its simply close to saying Its the best movie in Africa...
Nollywood Actress, Stephanie Linus who happens to be in the league of Directors now had a fulfilled night as her movie, Dry grabbed the Best Overall Movie and Best Costume Design.

As usual, you cannot witness such a high profile event as this without not witnessing some flaws, drama and surprises...My drama of the Night among the Red Carpet Hosts would have to be Actress and Comedienne, Helen Paul...Her hair was drama personified...more like a fairy-tale African granny. Eku Edowor went into the Shaolin Temple again just like last year..The awkward speech of the night went to Genevieve Nnaji..She would have just said thank you or simply allow her co partners to do the talking...

The musical performances were on point...From Yemi Alade, Flavour to Zonke from South Africa, It was outstanding and please, I would love to see more promotion for Salvador, A Comedian from Uganda..He killed it for me and My best dressed celebrities would be Adesuwa Etomi, Anna Banner and Funke Akindele while My worst dressed Celeb would be Actress, Ini Edo..Do not ask me why..ok..the designers would have done away with the train...
Ex Beauty Queen, Anna Banner- Best Dressed
Best Dressed-Adesuwa Etomi
Best Dressed-Funke Akindele
Worst Dressed-Ini Edo
To the Organizers of the awards, You keep getting better each year but If you get to read this write up, please take total cognizance of the microphone being used by the presenters..there has to be a way it blends with their heights..take a cue from Hollywood...It can be controlled automatically because I find It weird when they have to either bend or somehow adjust their body to the microphone...against all that, It was a wonderful show..and congratulations to Africa!
